LGBT History Month

Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) History Month

Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) History Month is celebrated in February in Britain, but our work to challenge homophobia, biphobia and transphobia continues throughout the year. The theme this year is religion, belief and philosophy, and the designer of this year’s logo says 'The inspiration behind the badge design came from the phrase “leap of faith”. I chose this phrase because I believe it is a very powerful and personal message. It is about believing and having faith, both in one’s religion, and in oneself. It represents a risk we take for a better outcome and future, a push forward in acceptance and tolerance within and towards to LGBT community, and the strength it can take to come out as a homosexual, bisexual or trans person.'
Emma Louis, Head of Diversity & Spirituality writes:

The ‘theme’ being highlighted during this year’s LGBT History Month is LGBT and Religion, Belief and Philosophy. The multi-faith Spiritual Care Team is proud to be part of a Trust that marks LGBT History Month. Taking an inclusion approach and affirming people in who they are, and the life journey they are on, is something we all feel strongly about as a Team. It inspires us in our work of spiritual and religious care and is about putting our Trust values of dignity and respect into practise.

In our resources section below are two useful leaflets. One explores a bit about the history of the relationship between LGBT issues and faith/beliefs in what we feel is a really helpful way. The other is a list of faith-based LGBT organisations that provide support and information for people wanting to explore more about a particular faith and LGBT issues.

You may also want to take a look at the video My super amazing mum explains what homosexuality is to parents! A Sikh man and his story about coming out to his parents.

Achievement Award nomination for the Recovery College!

The Recovery College was delighted to be nominated for the Trust's achievement award in December.

This has been achieved through the commitment of students, volunteers and co-producers .

Trust Clinical Colleagues have also been integral to the Recovery Colleges growing success by supporting and encouraging service users and carers to enrol.

Colleagues across the Trust have also been brilliant in supporting events and making donations to our Diwali and Christmas events.

We are also increasing the range and number of courses over forthcoming months. We are also supporting treatment team caseloads groups to try to reduce waiting lists .

We are  looking to provide training for staff in the Trust to help revalidation and appraisal processes and exploring training for partner organisations.

All of our courses are co-produced with people with lived experience and professionals working together, challenging stigma and giving people increasing hope opportunities and choice in their recovery journey.
